What to Expect at Your First Golf Trial Course

From your first swing to putting – this is what your taster day at Golfclub Niep looks like.

Thinking about trying golf but not sure what to expect? You are not alone: most participants of our trial courses hold a golf club for the very first time. That is exactly what the course is made for. Here is the typical schedule – step by step, no jargon.

Before the course: what to bring (spoiler: almost nothing)

The most important news first: you need no equipment of your own. We provide clubs, balls and everything else. Wear comfortable, weatherproof clothes and sturdy flat shoes – sneakers are perfectly fine. There is no complicated dress code for your taster day.

After you register via our form, we get back to you with a date. Nothing else to organise – just show up.

Step 1: Welcome and the essential basics

Your golf pro takes time for you at the start: How do you hold a club? How do you stand? What do terms like driving range, green or tee mean? These basics are explained in minutes – and you will notice golf is far less complicated than it looks from the outside.

Step 2: First swings on the driving range

Then it gets real: on the driving range you hit your first balls. Mishits are allowed (and expected!) – that is what the range is for. Your pro watches, gently corrects posture and grip, and gives you tips that make the ball fly better fast.

Most beginners experience that one moment after just a few tries: the club meets the ball cleanly, it clicks, and the ball sails away. That feeling is why so many people get hooked.

Step 3: Putting and chipping on the practice green

Golf is more than long shots. On the practice green you discover the short game: putting (rolling the ball into the hole) and chipping (short, delicate shots towards the pin). Many participants are surprised how much fun this part is.

Step 4: Questions, outlook and how to continue

At the end your pro answers all open questions. If you enjoyed it, we show you how your journey can continue: the course permit („Platzreife“ – your golf licence in Germany) and club life. Everything without obligation: the trial course commits you to nothing.

Common questions about the taster day

How long does it take? Plan one to two hours.

Am I too old? No. Our participants are between 8 and 80 – you can learn golf at any age.

Do I need to be athletic? Normal everyday fitness is plenty. Golf is about technique and feel, not strength.

What if it rains? Light rain – we play. Real bad weather – we simply reschedule.

Golfclub Niep is located in Neukirchen-Vluyn in the Lower Rhine region – just minutes from Moers, Krefeld and Duisburg, embedded in a nature and water conservation area.
